IVNC 2016 accommodations

Given that the conference will be on the UBC campus, the most convenient option will be to stay on campus! Fortunately, we have been able to secure a variety of on-campus accommodation options to suit all budgets. For example, if you don’t mind company, you could pick rooms in shared apartments for only $55 CAD / night. The still very affordable price of $119 CAD / night will get you your own private studio, which could also comfortably accommodate a guest. If you plan to bring more guests or simply would like to team up with your friends and colleagues, you could go for the one-bedroom suites at $199 CAD / night. All these options are within short walking distances of the conference hall. To make sure the option you are interested in is available, please try to book early. Also, given that the Canadian Dollar (CAD) is currently very weak, it’s a great time to make the reservation. To learn more about these options and make a reservation, click here.

UBC is located on the western side of the city of Vancouver. Staying in the city, for example in downtown, is certainly an option if that is your preference. However, in that case, please make sure to plan for your daily commute and give it enough time. Driving from downtown to UBC takes about 25 minutes each way when traffic is light. If you plan to take the bus, although there are frequent buses available, you should factor in about an hour of commute each way.

The UBC campus is very large and beautiful. It’s like a city in itself, and there are a wide variety of things to do on or around campus, including a multitude of eating options on campus, but many more within a short distance. So, you will likely find it very interesting and extremely convenient to stay on campus. In fact, unless you have a strong reason for wanting to stay elsewhere, we would advise you to take advantage of on-campus accommodations! This also has the added benefit of a lower conference registration fee. And you can always catch the bus to downtown or elsewhere when you have more time in the evenings, in order to experience the Vancouver night life.
