Biography

Professor Ning-sheng Xu is President of Fudan University, Shanghai, China. He is academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and Fellow of TWAS (the academy of science for developing world), and Fellow of the Institute of Physics, UK. Also, he is Chairman of Chinese Vacuum Society, and the Head of Expert Panel of China National Research and Development Program of Nano Science and Technology Key.

Professor Xu has experienced as member of a number of steering committees of international academic organizations, including IUVSTA (Councilor of the Executive Committee, International Union of Vacuum Sciences, Technology and Application), IVMC/IVNC (International Vacuum Micro/Nano-electronics Conference), and IFES (International Field Emission Symposium) and SID (Chairman of Beijing Chapter, Society of Information Display).

His research areas include nanomaterials, miro-nano devices, electron emission cold cathode materials and flat panel display. Since 1980s, he has been active in the research field of vacuum micro/nano-electronics. He was the chairman of IVMC2000 and IVNC2006, and has served in IVNC International Steering Committee since 2000.
