Prof. Ricky Lay-Kee Ang
Biography
Lay-Kee (Ricky) ANG was trained as a theoretical and computational scientist, whose research interests are in the development of theoretical scaling laws and models that are able to capture the essential physics in any interesting problems with a strong focus on the physics and applications of charge particles (electrons) and lights (laser, electromagnetic wave) and plasma. He enjoys strong interactions with experimental works in all phase of his research from basic understandings to practical applications. Since 2002, he has secured more than S$8.5M as PI in research grants from both Singapore (A*STAR PSF, MOE Tier 2, NRF) and USA (AFOSR-AOARD, ONR-Global) funding agencies. He has been invited to give technical presentations at various conferences and meetings, such as USA-NRL (2010), USA-AFOSR and AFRL (2006, 2012, 2015), USA U of Maryland (2010), USA GE-Global Research (2007), Abdus Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics (2007-Italy), IVESC (2008 – UK, 2010-China), APS-DPP (2005-USA, 2012-USA), IVEC (2013-Paris), ICPSA (2013-Singapore), ICOPS (2014-USA), OCPA8 (2014-Singapore), and others. He has published about 90 journal papers and 120 conference papers.
He has completed the supervision of 7 PhD and 3 Master students. He is currently supervising 6 PhD students, and 4 research staff at SUTD . He is a senior member of IEEE and a member of American Physical Society (APS). From 2006 to 2011, he was an adjunct professor in the Institute of High Performance Computing (IHPC), under the Singapore Agency for Science and Technology (A*STAR). He was the founding chair of the local Chapter (Singapore) of the USA IEEE NPSS (Nuclear and Plasma Science Society) in 2012.
