About Brno

Brno is the second-largest city in the Czech Republic. Brno itself has almost 400,000 inhabitants and the Brno metropolitan area has almost 700,000 inhabitants. It is important political, cultural and technical hub of the South Moravian Regions. It is known as a capital of electron microscopy. 30% of the world’s production of electron microscopes is made in Brno. It makes more than 700 instruments a year, which then go all over the world.

Brno is also one of the most important student cities with 33 faculties belonging to 13 institutes of higher education. The city is full of valuable historical buidlings and interesting places. You can enjoy a beer or two on famous Jakubské square (second image). Get “lost” in the Brno underground, get goosebumps in the ossuary at the church of st. James, be amazed by a timeless architecture of Vila Tugendhat or try to read the fime from the Brno astronomical clock. If you want to know more about interesting places to visit go to ATTRACTIONS.
